An accident my player had was that somebody broke into his house; after that he couldn't do anything for 3 weeks, since he had so clean up the house. ;)
Injuries can get a bit more serious since you can be out for over 10 weeks and lose skill levels.
What you can do (from an ITST thread):

The moment you get an injury hit the guide button to return to dashboard and the start the game up again so you wont lose your level points, should take you back to your last save point..
